A 68-year-old man has suffered minor injuries after tackling a robber that broke into his flat on Toxteth Street, Openshaw. At about 2.30am this morning, Thursday 6 March 2008, the victim was woken by a man in his bedroom who claimed to be a police officer. The man told the victim he had been burgled and asked to see his valuables. He then stole some money from the kitchen and began to run away. The victim attempted to rugby tackle the intruder, grazing himself in the process. The thief, who is described as white, around 50 years old, 5ft 9in tall, of slender build with grey thinning hair, fled from the premises and may have had an accomplice Police Sergeant Christopher Mellors of the Collyhurst Volume Crime Team said: "This man had the audacity to not only break into an innocent man's home, but to then pretend to be a police officer in an attempt to deceive him. "The victim decided to confront the offender but has unfortunately injured himself trying to do so.
