    New operational names given to Police horses: Essex

    The names mark the eight horses and all their riders becoming nationally accredited by reaching training standards set by The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).

    Since the Mounted Unit was re-introduced in Essex Police three years ago, each of the police officer riders has completed a four month training course and their horses have been trained for up to 18 months.

    Fourth permanent knife amnesty bin for Suffolk: Mildenhall

    Mildenhall is to be the site of Suffolk's fourth permanent knife amnesty bin for the Bin A Blade campaign.

    Since the yearlong amnesty started on 14th December 2010, 1972 knives have been deposited anonymously in the first three secure bins outside Ipswich, Lowestoft and Bury St Edmunds Police Stations.

    As part of the response to the Constabulary being required to cut its budget by £18.7million the existing Voluntary Redundancy Scheme has been opened up to all police staff.

    As Dublin City Council has commenced work on Smithfield Plaza as part of the Smithfield Quarter Enhancement Scheme over 50% of the space normally occupied by the Horse Fair will not be available on Sunday 6th March 2011.

    An Garda Síochána wish to inform patrons attending the event that there will be traffic restrictions in the area and parking will be severely curtailed.

  • 271 ton electrical transformer one of the heaviest cargos to travel UK roads: Penwortham

    One of the heaviest loads ever to move on UK roads will travel through Preston over the coming fortnight.

    The enormous electrical transformer is being delivered in two sections - each weighing 271 tonnes - on Sunday 6 and Sunday 20 March and will be taken from Holme Road to the National Grid substation at Howick Cross Lane in Penwortham

    Hampshire Police Authority has awarded Challenge & Adventure a Crime Prevention Grant of £2,000.

    The grant was awarded by the Authority's Community Engagement Committee for the Challenge and Adventure Activity Programme.

    Challenge and Adventure, based on the Isle of Wight work with young people aged 11-16 who are referred to them by agencies.

  • New guidance on the safe-keeping of air weapons: Cumbria/Nationwide

    Police in Cumbria show support for a new offence introduced today relating to the safe-keeping of air weapons.

    The new offence requires people to take "reasonable precautions" to prevent unauthorised access to an air weapon by young persons aged under 18, which carries a maximum, fine of up to £1,000.

    Visitors to Lowestoft police station during the week beginning Monday 6 December are being made aware there will be a slight change to opening hours while work is being carried out to replace the front doors to the building.

  • Fixed speed cameras across South Yorkshire to be reviewed

    Speed cameras will not be removed completely from South Yorkshire's roads the Head of Roads Policing for South Yorkshire Police has said.

    As part of a review process which has been in development for more than 18 months, the South Yorkshire Safety Camera Partnership will be trialling turning off a total of four fixed speed cameras in the Rotherham area.
