At around 10.30pm on Sunday 2 January 2012, a number of men aged between 16 and 20 walked on a tram at Bury Metrolink.
One of the group set fire to an item and placed it on the seat.
The group watched it burn before they got off at the Besses O' the Barn stop.
Officers are investigating a fire that broke out in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 29th January, at a flat on Heol Aneurin Bevan in Rhymney.
It happened at approximately 4.30am.
The two people inside the second floor flat, a man and a woman, escaped by jumping out of a window.

Police are appealing for information about an incident in which a narrowboat was broken into and set alight.
It happened between midnight and 12.30am on Thursday, 19th January, on the Stratford on Avon canal at Drawbridge Road, Shirley.
The 62ft red and black narrowboat was moored near the Drawbridge pub.
A month after Worcester man Andrew Heath was killed in a fire at his flat, West Mercia Police is offering a reward for information that will lead detectives to those who killed him.
Mr Heath, aged 52, was found dead at his home in Chedworth Close, Warndon after a suspected arson attack at around 4am on Wednesday 14 December.
Gwent Police is releasing CCTV stills and appealing for information following an arson attack in Nantyglo.
The incident occurred on Roundhouse Close, Nantyglo at approximately 3.20am on Sunday 16th October 2011.
The fire caused significant damage to the property which was unoccupied at the time.
No one was injured.
Officers investigating the fire at Swansea Road which happened on New Year's Day are anxious to identify a man seen in the area between 4.15 and 4.45pm on 1st January 2012.
"We would like to speak to this man to see if he has information which can help with this investigation," said Detective Inspector Gary Phillips.

A £5,000 reward has been offered after a serious assault at a Leicester pub which resulted in two men receiving burn injuries.
The incident took place at about 12.40am on Tuesday October 25 at the Rainbow and Dove Public House in Charles Street.
The fire ignited in the beer garden at the pub and two men, aged 21 and 20, were taken to Nottingham City Hospital.
