The incident happened between 3.30pm and 3.35pm, on Monday, January 18.
The 47-year-old victim left the scooter outside a newsagents on Victoria Road East.
However, when he came outside the shop just five minutes later, the scooter had been stolen.

The scooter broke down and the victim, a 56-year-old local man, got a lift from a passing motorist who took him to his appointment and then returned him back to the scooter.
When they arrived back the scooter was gone.
