Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft of a 5 feet tall statue of the Betty Boop cartoon figure from a shop in Forest Hall and a coffee shop sign stolen in a second incident at the same premises.
The Betty Boop statue worth £500 was stolen from outside of Marche Delicatessen on Briar Edge in Forest Hall on Sunday, June 6 between 1.45pm and 2.15pm.
A second theft of a Pumphrey's Coffee sign worth £100, from outside the same store happened on Tuesday, June 8, between 2pm and 2.30pm.
Sergeant Matt Bruno, of Killingworth Neighbourhood Policing Team said:
"I'm sure if someone saw a 5 foot statue of Betty Boop being carried along the street they will remember seeing her.
"I also hope they remember who was carrying her as well.
"If you have any information about either of these incidents or have been offered this statue or sign for sale please contact the police.
"The shop are particularly keen to get Betty back as she is a local landmark and is much missed by customers and staff alike."
Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen either Betty being stolen or the coffee sign is asked to contact Killingworth Neighbourhood Policing Team on 03456 043 043 ext 69191.
