South Worcestershire farmers are being warned to be on the alert for sheep thieves after 18 lambs, worth nearly £1,500, were taken from a Callow End farm.
The 11-months old lambs - each valued at £80 and with a distinct red marking on its head - were first thought to have strayed from Bush Farm, Bush Lane, but now it is believed that they were stolen between 4th and 12th January.
"There is nothing to show that the lambs have actually been stolen, as opposed to having merely escaped and strayed, but there is no trace of them on surrounding farmland after more than a week, leading us to believe that a crime has been committed," said a police spokesman.
"With many farms fast-approaching the lambing season, we urge all farmers with sheep and lambs to ensure they pay the utmost attention to safeguarding the security and well-being of their flocks."
Anyone who believes that they have information about the lambs - whether seeing anything suspicious in the area between the given times or believing they know where the lambs were later taken to - should contact police on 0300 333 3000.
Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
