Badger sett 'purposefully obstructed': Pryors Wood, Stevenage

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a badger sett is believed to have been purposefully obstructed in Pryors Wood, Stevenage between Tuesday, May 25 and Tuesday June 1.

It is believed that offender(s) placed large rocks and sticks outside two entrances to the badger sett hindering the animals from entering or leaving their home.

Investigating officer, PC Nicola Davies, said:

"Badger setts are holes in the ground and could be mistaken for rabbit holes.

"Whoever obstructed the setts must have known that they would be preventing animals from entering and leaving their homes, which would only succeed in causing them distress and suffering."

She added:

"Badgers are protected under the Bagder Act of 1992. Tampering with their setts in anyway is a criminal offence and anyone caught doing so will be dealt with robustly by police.

"I am appealing for anyone who has information regarding who could be responsible, or if you saw any strange behaviour in Pryors Wood between the stated times, to get in contact."

Anyone with information can contact PC Davies on the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
