Police are appealing for public help after thieves stole items and disturbed animals after entering a field in Buckland Newton.

Some time between 7.30pm on Sunday, 10 May 2009 and 9am on Monday, 11 May 2009, thieves went into a field on Factory Lane in Buckland Newton and stole items as well as setting geese and chickens loose.

The thieves stole an electric fencer and battery that was in use securing pigs - as well as a roll of fencing and a livestock water distributor.

Police Constable Tony Skeldon, of Dorchester police station, said:

"Geese and chickens in the field were released from their secure pens and one goose sustained an eye injury during the incident.

"The incident has been very upsetting for the owner and I'm appealing for witnesses and anyone with information about the incident - or about those responsible - to contact the police."

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 01305 222 222 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
