Police in Fife are currently investigating the report of several horses being prepared for theft by horse thieves.

PC Ian Laing, Horsewatch Co-ordinator for Fife Constabulary established recently that during the last few weeks, several horses in Fife have been prepared for removal.

He said

"At several places in Central Fife, horses have been found by their owners to have had their manes braided.

"This is a recognised method used by horse thieves to identify which animal should be removed from a field or stable.

"Fortunately the owners of the animals concerned discovered the braiding and action was taken to avoid their subsequent theft."

Anyone who owns and keeps horses in Fife should be aware of this recent activity and contact police direct by calling 0845 600 5702.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
