Thames Valley Police is appealing for information after two sheep were shot with a cross bow in Swallowfield over the weekend of 12 to 13 September.
Neighbourhood Specialist Officer PC Adie Hodges said:
"Two ewes were shot in Swallowfield Park, Church Road sometime between Saturday afternoon (12/9) and 8am on Sunday (13/9).
"One of the sheep is dead, the other survived, but when the bolt was removed the tip has remained lodged in the animal.
"The bolt which was removed is dark red and has the number 2018 on the shaft.
"The offenders' actions are cruel and criminal.
"In addition the main concern is that someone is using a very dangerous weapon in a reckless way and could be a danger to the public.
"If you witnessed the incident or have any information as to who the offender may be, please contact me."
Anyone with information about the incident is being urged to contact PC Hodges via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505.
