Police are appealing for witnesses and information after the theft of three Shetland ponies from stables at Romsley, near Halesowen.

The ponies were taken after thieves damaged a gate to gain access to a field off Uffmoor Lane between 1pm on Monday (December 28) and 10.30am yesterday (Tuesday, December 29) and then broke into the stables.

The ponies are described as:

  • one is a palomino with a mark on its left cheek
  • one a chestnut
  • one chocolate brown and black

They were worth a total of around £3,000.

Inspector David Shaw of West Mercia Police said:

"This is a very unusual crime for the area and we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen any unusual activity there.

"It is a quiet lane and any activity there hopefully would have been noticed, particularly as a vehicle of some size would have been required in order to remove the animals."

Witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 0300 333 3000.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
