A sow valued at more than £200 is believed to have been slaughtered before it was stolen from Willow Orchard Farm.
There was evidence of blood found by the animal's owners in the sty where the pig was kept at the farm in Uttoxeter Road, Hilton.
Suzie Musgrove, a co-owner of the farm, said she realised the animal was missing when only two of their three pigs came to feed on Saturday morning.
She said the 27-week-old sow was due to be slaughtered, along with the two others, the following Sunday.
The sow is believed to have been taken between 10pm on Friday and 7am on Saturday.
Suzie Musgrove went on to say:
"It is scary because who stole the pig knew which was the best one to go for and we don't want this to happen to any of our other animals."
