Traps spotted on falcon nest ledge: Great Saredon

A 34 year-old man from the West Midlands has been arrested following the disturbance of a peregrine falcon nesting site in the Great Saredon area.

Officers were alerted by a member of the community, after two traps were seen set on the nest ledge.

Attending, police found a peregrine nest had been emptied of eggs and two spring traps set to catch the adult birds.

The RSPB's (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) Investigations Team assisted in removing the traps from the ledge.

PC 4280 Sean Hinsley from Watling NPU said:

"We're working with partners to stamp out this type of criminality and to ensure the safety of all protected birds."

Anyone with information that may assist our enquiries is urged to contact us on 0345 123 4455.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Added Guy Shorrock from the RSPB's Investigations Team who assisted in the removal of the traps:

"Setting these is barbaric and it's absolutely terrible to find out these types of problems are ongoing."

He continued:

"It's taken more than 30 years for peregrine numbers to recover from historic problems and sadly to this day we find them targeted by a small minority of people for various reasons."
