Police are advising the public to be vigilant after a snake called Frank was reported missing by its owner in Brentry, Bristol this afternoon.

It is believed the animal escaped through a window of a property in Ravenglass Crescent.

Officers are currently working closely with the owner and a zoological expert to locate the snake.

Experts have suggested that it is highly likely to have remained in the garden.

Police officers have also spoken to the RSPCA, Bristol Zoo and a pet shop owner who are providing advice.

The snake is described as:

  • a Boa Constrictor
  • approximately 7ft long
  • brown white and black markings
  • red area on its tail

Police would advise the public not to panic.

If people see the snake they should not approach it but should call police immediately on 999 and remain at a safe distance.

A team of Police Community Support Officers (PCSO's) is visiting local properties advising people to be aware and to keep an eye out for the reptile.
