Police are appealing for public help after a Yorkshire Terrier dog was stolen from a parked car in Coalville.
The car, a red Fiat Multipla, was parked in Morrisons car park in Whitwick Road, at about 12pm on Tuesday May 11 and the owners had left their dog, Ruby, inside.
When they returned about 25 minutes later they found that both the passenger and driver's door had been tampered with and Ruby was gone.
They also later discovered that the catalytic converter from the car had also been taken.
Ruby is about 6 months old and is a very small, pocket size Yorkshire Terrier.
When she was taken she was wearing a pink collar.
PC Martine Coleman, the investigating officer, said:
"Ruby's owners are terribly upset that she has been taken and are desperate to get her back.
"And then the owners had the second blow of finding out that the catalytic converter had also been taken from their car.
"If you were shopping at Morrisons and parked your car in the car park that day, you may have seen something.
"Perhaps you saw someone in the area with Ruby, or perhaps you saw someone breaking into the car or hanging around the area looking suspicious.
"If you do have any information about the incident, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please call us as soon as you can and help us reunite Ruby with her owners.
"Alternatively we would like to speak to anyone who has seen Ruby or knows of her current whereabouts.
"Her size is very distinctive so if you have been approached by someone who is trying to sell a very small Yorkshire Terrier or you know someone who has acquired one in suspicious circumstances, please call us immediately."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4161 Martine Coleman on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4161.
Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
