Police are appealing for information and urging the public to be vigilant after a herd of ten sheep worth £1,000 was stolen from a Milnthorpe farm last week.
Between Wednesday 17 February and Friday 19 February 2010, ten sheep were stolen from Greenmount Farm, Crooklands, Milnthorpe.
Police are particularly concerned as the sheep were Herdwick ewes, heavy with lamb, and were injected with Trodax at the beginning of the month.
Trodax, an anti-parasite compound designed to kill Liver Fluke, is traditionally given to sheep but can prove extremely harmful if their meat is consumed within 49 days of the injection.
Police are appealing to anyone with information, including any person, restaurant or butchers who may be offered sheep from an unknown or suspicious source, to contact their local police officer on 0845 33 00 247.
Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
