Thieves burgled a house on Compstall Road in Romiley just before 11pm on 15 May 2009.

The gang smashed a ground floor window and then ransacked the house, stealing watches and jewellery worth more than £20,000.

Watches stolen included the following:

  • a Rolex Daytona worth £5,000
  • a Movado Ploypan 14ct gold watch with leather strap that dates back to 1915, worth about £6,000
  • a rare silver Graham oversized fighter watch with a black face and rubber strap worth about £5,000.
  • a Tudor watch dating back to 1935 with the inscription 'To John Baron for 25 years at Bank Rubber Works'
  • a stainless steel Cartier Panther Jumbo worth about £5,000, one of only 100 in the world

Police in Stockport are now appealing to anyone who has information about the burglary to come forward.

Police Constable Samuel Findlay, of the Stockport Volume Crime Team, said:

"The monetary value of the watches stolen is extremely high, but the sentimental value to the owner cannot be overstated.

"To have your home invaded and ransacked in this way is an awful experience and the victim is obviously distraught that a collection of rare watches has been stolen.

"It is likely the thieves will try and sell these watches on as soon as they can but I would urge people to try and beat them at their own game and not allow them to profit from their ill-gotten gains.

"If you are offered any of these watches from anyone other than a licensed dealer please get in touch with us and we can stop these people in their tracks."

Anyone with information should call the Volume Crime Team on 0161 856 9970.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
