14-year-old girl left 'upset and shaken' after attempted abduction: Rutherglen

Strathclyde Police is appealing for information following the attempted abduction of a 14-year-old girl in Rutherglen on Friday 10 June 2011.

Around 2200 hours, the girl was making her way home along Mill Street, near to Overtoun Park when a small green car pulled alongside her and the driver tried to make conversation with her.

The girl ignored him and continued walking; however the man got out of the car and tried to grab her.

She managed to run off along Blairbeth Road and made her way home.

Police were contacted and detectives from Rutherglen CID have launched an investigation.

Detective Constable Colin McLean said:

"It is vital we trace this man.

"Thankfully the young girl didn't require any medical treatment; however she is extremely upset and shaken.

"The man approached the girl on Mill Street, near to the funeral directors.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was in this area on Friday night around 10pm and saw a small green car or indeed to anyone who may have any information or suspicions about the driver of a green car.

"Any information at this time could be helpful to the inquiry.

"It was still fairly bright at this time on Friday night so we are hopeful someone may have seen something that could assist the investigation."

The suspect is described as:

• a white male
• aged 30-years-old
• medium build
