76-year-old targeted by purse thieves after cash withdrawall, CCTV issued: Kings Heath 76-year-old targeted by purse thieves after cash withdrawall, CCTV issued: Kings Heath

Detectives today released CCTV images of two people they would like to speak to after an elderly pensioner had her purse stolen in Kings Heath.

The offence took place on 28 December 2011 at approximately 11.00am, where CCTV pictures show the 76-year-old woman withdrawing money from a cash machine inside the Nationwide Building society on Alcester Road South.

The footage shows a man and woman who appear to watch the victim enter her PIN number and withdraw money, before following her to the Barnardo's charity shop further up the high street.

It is here that the two offenders have engaged the woman in conversation in an effort to distract her, before stealing her purse.

Shortly afterwards, a quantity of money has been withdrawn from the victim's bank account via an ATM outside the Billesley Post Office on the Yardley Wood Road.

PC William Clough is investigating the incident, he said:

"I would urge members of the public to have a look at these images and see if they can help us trace these heartless offenders.

"It is clear that the couple have deliberately targeted a vulnerable lone woman who is now, quite understandably, still shaken and upset.

"We are desperate to locate these offenders before they have the chance to out anyone else through a similar ordeal.

"As always, we would encourage anyone using a cash point to remain vigilant.

"Always keep your PIN hidden from view, and if you do think anyone is watching you then cancel the transaction and remove your card.

"Likewise, if you are approached by strangers please be cautious and if you do feel vulnerable attract the attention of shop staff or other members of the public."

Anyone who thinks they may recognise either of the people in the images is asked to contact PC William Clough at Bournville police station on 101.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
