An Garda Síochána & PSNI take on British Police: Donnybrook

The Ireland Police Rugby Team (An Garda Síochána & PSNI combined) will take on the British Police Rugby Team.

It will take place at Donnybrook, at 2pm. The game will be refereed by Mr. Alain Rolland, Irish International Referee.

On the 15th of May 2009, the Ireland Police Rugby Team (An Garda Síochána & PSNI combined) will take on the British Police Rugby Team at Donnybrook, with kick-off at 2pm.

The Ireland Police squad includes All-Ireland league players such as Stephen Kelly (Shannon), Declan Lavery (Garryowen), Adrian Hanley (Buccaneers), John Dever (Terenure), John Gilmartin (Young Munster) and former Irish Under 19 World Cup winner Damien Broughall (Cill Dara)

The Britsh squad includes players who play top level club rugby in England, Wales and Scotland, including Richard Stott (Moseley), Toby Hanley (Coventry), Brendan Fisher (Cardiff) and former Welsh youths international Tim Green.

A pre-match reception for invited guests will take place in the Old Wesley clubhouse at 12.30pm.

Amongst the invited guests will be Mr. Dermot Ahern, Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr. David Reddaway, British Ambassador, Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy, Chief Constable of the PSNI Sir Hugh Orde, the Chief Constable of Gloucestershire, Dr. Timothy Brain, Assistant Commissioner Frank Armstrong, City of London Police. Other senior officers from An Garda Síochána and the PSNI will also attend, as well as representatives of the IRFU and Leinster Branch of the IRFU.

The significance of this fixture is highlighted in the fact that World Cup referee Mr Allain Rolland will officiate at the fixture. Given the uniqueness of this match and in recognition of its importance both on a sporting and political level President Mary McAleece will host an after match reception in Áras an Uachtaráin.

It is with this in mind that all sports enthusiasts are asked to come to Donnybrook on Friday the 15th of May for a 2 p.m. kick-off and support the Ireland Police Rugby Team in this fixture.
