A rare puppy which was stolen during a burglary in Egham earlier this week has been found safe and well.
Surrey Police received notification yesterday (Thursday, 8 December) that Daphne, a grey Caucasian Ovchka Russian Bear puppy, stolen during a burglary at an address in Hurst Lane, had been located.
Members of the public found the eight-week-old female puppy unharmed by the side of the road in Lyne Crossing Road, Lyne and Daphne was quickly returned to her rightful owners.
PoliceĀ in Runnymede are appealing for information from the public after a rare puppy was stolen during a burglary in Egham.
The incident took place at an address Hurst Lane at some point between 9pm on Monday, 5 December and 8am on Tuesday, 6 December.
The offenders broke into an outbuilding a short distance from the main house and stole a grey Caucasian Ovcharka Russian Bear puppy and various pieces of fishing equipment.
The eight-week-old female puppy is registered as Lady Sacha but is called Daphne by her owners and was wearing a soft nylon collar which is described as being a rusty brown or orange colour.
Following the incident Surrey Police officers are carrying out house to house enquiries in the area and reviewing local CCTV footage.
Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) will also be carrying out a forensic examination of the location and the victims will be offered a visit from a Runnymede neighbourhood officer to discuss additional security measures.
Detective Inspector Stewart Leahy said:
"This was an unusual burglary where a much-loved family pet has been taken.
"This seems to have been a very targeted burglary as the offenders made no attempt to gain access to the main building.
"The owners of the puppy are understandably very upset and we are doing everything possible to locate Daphne as soon as possible.
"These breeds of dogs are extremely rare in this country and can grow to over 24.4 inches in height and weigh up to 143 lbs.
"I have not ruled out the possibility that the offenders may have had a vehicle in the area to transport the stolen items following the burglary.
"The dog has a very distinctive appearance so I feel certain that members of the public would recall seeing the puppy or may be able to provide vital information about where she is currently being kept."
