Officers from Harborough local policing unit are appealing for public help after gravestones were vandalised in Lutterworth.
Sometime between the afternoon of Monday January 9 and yesterday morning (Tuesday January 10) three gravestones within the grounds of St Mary's Church in St Mary's Road were damaged.
Offensive words and drawings have been written on to the gravestones in red.
Officers are appealing to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in this area on Tuesday afternoon (January 10) to contact them.
Police community support officer Ray Wells is investigating the incidents, he said:
"This was a senseless act of vandalism which has caused a great deal of distress to the families of the deceased.
"We would appeal to the public to help us identify the perpetrators and contact us if they know anything about the incidents.
"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could help with our enquiries."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PCSO 6636 Ray Wells on 101, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 6636.
