Armed robbers threaten postmaster: Queen Street, Carlton

Holbeck CID are appealing for witnesses and information following a robbery which occurred yesterday afternoon at Carlton Post Office, Queen Street, Carlton.

Two men entered the premises at around 2.20pm armed with what is believed to be a sledgehammer and forced their way into the secure area behind the counter, before removing cash from the till.

The postmaster working in the premises at the time fled into the living area and alerted her husband, who followed the suspects out of the premises and challenged them but was threatened with the hammer. The couple were uninjured in the incident.

The two men left the scene in a Nissan 350Z which has has since been recovered in the Lofthouse area. It had recently been stolen from the Alwoodley area.
