Officers are investigating a fire that broke out in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 29th January, at a flat on Heol Aneurin Bevan in Rhymney.

It happened at approximately 4.30am.

The two people inside the second floor flat, a man and a woman, escaped by jumping out of a window.

Both are currently in hospital and are suffering from smoke inhalation and serious back injuries but are not in a life threatening condition.

The fire is being treated as arson and officers are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 101.
