Police are appealing for information after burglaries at two business premises, and a fire at one of them, in Halesworth Thoroughfare overnight.
Police were initially alerted at 7.10am this morning, Wednesday 23 March, to reports of a fire at Halesworth Book Shop.
The owner of premises nearby smelt burning, saw smoke coming from the back of the bookshop and alerted the fire service who in turn called police.
It appears someone gained entry to The Book Shop and The Carpet Shop.
Three seat cushions - two beige and one brown - appear to be the only items stolen from The Carpet Shop but a safe containing cash was stolen from the book shop before the offender or offenders set light to books causing the blaze.
Substantial smoke damage was caused to the premises and items inside.
It's thought the burglar or burglars gained entry at some point after 5pm yesterday, Tuesday 22.
Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area between 5pm and 7am this morning who may have seen anything suspicious.
Anyone with information about the incident or the offender is asked to call PC 1097 Winchester at Halesworth on 01986 835300.
Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
