Police in Blackpool are appealing for information after a terminally ill woman's fire damaged home was burgled on Wednesday night (23 March 2011)
The burglary took place at a detached dorma bungalow currently under major renovation on Warley Road between 4pm on Wednesday and 11am on Thursday.
The offenders have used a brick to smash a small kitchen window at the rear of the address and once inside have made an untidy search of the ground floor bedroom and removed jewellery including three watches and two gold bracelets.
Before leaving the offender has also drunk from a half empty bottle of Jack Daniels found in the kitchen before leaving the empty bottle outside in rear garden.
The 66-year-old victim Mary Ashford, who is suffering from an inoperable brain tumour, has been left devastated at losing the last of her personal possessions.
Her house was badly fire damaged in October 2010 following an electrical fault and she has been unable to live there whilst repairs were carried out.
Paul Austin from Blackpool Police:
"This is a sad case in which a terminally ill woman has lost the last of her remaining possessions through theft."
