Police are appealing for public help after a charity box inside the Harby Parish Church was damaged.

The incident happened sometime between 9.30am and 12.20pm on Friday April 16 at the church in School Lane, when it was discovered that the charity box had been damaged.

It is believed that the damage to the box, that was set into the church wall, could cost about £300.

PC Paul Anderson, the investigating officer, said:

"Thankfully the box had recently been emptied so very little charity money was taken, but the damage caused could cost the church hundreds of pounds.

"If you were in the church that day, or were in the area, you might have seen someone acting suspiciously?

"If so please call us, the information you have could be vital to our enquiries."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 1921 Paul Anderson on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 1921.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
