Farmfoods staff threatened with metal bar as robbers escape with cash, CCTV: St Helens

Detectives have released CCTV pictures of two masked men robbing a Farmfoods store in St Helens.

The images show the two offenders threatening female staff members with a metal bar before stealing a large amount of cash from the safe.

The pair escaped in a blue- coloured car following the incident at Farmfoods in Boundary Road, St Helens, at around 8pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2011.

Detective Sergeant Lee Stinchcombe from St Helens CID, said:

"This was an intimidating incident for the staff who were on duty but thankfully no-one was hurt.

"They were just going about their business when two men in baseball caps, face coverings and bulky jackets have entered.

"They have threatened staff with metal bars, possibly pieces of scaffolding, and demanded money from the safe.

"They have then fled in a blue-coloured car in an unknown direction.

"We would appeal to anyone out and about in Boundary Road that evening who saw anything suspicious to get in touch.

"In particular we are keen to hear from anyone who saw a blue-coloured, M-reg Vauxhall Astra in the area before the robbery, or two men - one tall and thin with short brown hair and one shorter and stockier - waiting in a car near the store."
