Police have launched an investigation after a firework was put through a letterbox in Chard.

The incident happened at 4.30am on Sunday 14 November, 2010 at an address on Holyrood Street.

The victim was woken by a loud bang and on getting up to investigate discovered a lit firework had been put through the letterbox causing burns to the carpet and setting the smoke alarm off.

Fortunately a fire did not start but the occupant suffered smoke inhalation.

Police take the use of fireworks to commit crime extremely seriously and have begun an arson investigation.

Enquiries continue and detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the culprits or who saw anything suspicious to get in touch.
