Police have received reports of a fishing boat which has overturned about a mile and a half north of Ardnamurchan, leaving three people dead and one in hospital.
The incident was reported to the coastguard around 5pm this evening and a search involving the RNLI, coastguard and the navy was initiated for the four people believed to have been on board.
The RNLI lifeboat from Mallaig recovered two people, one was taken to hospital for treatment (not life threatening) and the second was pronouced dead on arrival.
Rescue 177 Navy helicopter recovered one person and airlifted them to the Broadford Hospital in Skye, however that casualty was also pronounced dead on arrival.
Rescue 100 Stornoway coastguard helicopter recovered one person who was flown to Broadford Hospital in Skye, but that casualty was sadly pronounced dead on arrival.
Inquiries will be carried out into the circumstances surrounding the incident and Police will report the deaths to the Procurator Fiscal.
Details of the deceased will not be issued until the next of kin have been informed and formal identification has taken place.
