The family of murdered Cem Duzgan are urging witnesses to come forward and help trace his killers two years after he was killed in E5.
The 21-year-old was shot as he played a game of pool with his friends at a Hackney social club on Monday 5 October 2009.
Mr Duzgun was shot at close range inside the Clapton FC Club, a Turkish social club, along Upper Clapton Road, Hackney E5 at approximately 22.45hrs on 5.10.09.
Officers, including armed officers, and London Ambulance Service attended the scene to discover the victim suffering from a number of gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Turkish man, Mr Duzgun lived with his family in Islington and worked as a sales assistant at a clothes store in Croydon.
A post-mortem examination held at Poplar Mortuary gave cause of death as gunshot wounds (we are not discussing further).
The victim had arrived at the venue just after 22.00hrs that evening.
While he was playing pool with a friend, two male suspects entered the premises and opened fire from the doorway.
A number of shots were fired, hitting Mr Duzgan who was nearest to the door.
Officers do not believe he was the intended target; but rather that the suspects simply fired indiscriminately into the venue.
The two men then left the scene on foot heading in separate directions - one north past Clapton BR station (next to the venue), before turning right to go east into Southwold Road.
The second turned left on leaving the club and ran south along Upper Clapton Road, then left into Cleveleys Road.
The first suspect is described as:
- light-skinned black male
- aged early 20s
- medium height
- slim build
- wearing a navy/black jacket, grey hooded top, blue jeans and white trainers
The second suspect is described as:
- a black male
- aged early 20s
- wearing a navy hooded coat, jeans and trainers
- carrying a plastic bag containing the gun
Following previous appeals officers released CCTV images of the two suspects, taken from the scene just prior to the incident, in the hope someone would recognise them and come forward.
Cem's mother, Ipez Duzgun, said:
"Words cannot describe the void and the pain that my family has been feeling for the last two years.
"We are breathing but we are not living.
"We cannot sleep at night knowing that the people responsible for Cem's murder walk freely without a care in the world.
"Every time I see someone who matches the description of the killers I think 'is this him'? or 'does he know who killed Cem'? I have lost all faith in people.
"We plead with anyone who knows something, no matter how insignificant, to contact the police.
"We need justice and we need your help to get it.
"For all those people out there who called themselves Cem's friends please break your silence and don't let another family go through our pain.
"It is not right that a mother should have to bury her child."
Det Insp Simon Ashwin, Homicide and Serious Crime Command said:
"Cem was a hard-working young man who had been relaxing with friends when he was callously gunned down.
"His family and friends are devastated at his loss and are still waiting for answers as to why this happened.
"I believe that some people in the local community still hold significant information about what happened on that night two years ago and we urge them to contact us."
