Are Royston’s local animals carrying out a rebellion? Perhaps there is something in their feed because Royston Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) were called to the rescue of their second animal escape incident in the last 6 weeks!
13 horses escaped from a field at the rear of an address at Church Hill, Royston on 15 December at around 12.30hrs after a gate was left open. After climbing up a small embankment, the herd settled on an area of grass at Church Hill Road, coincidentally, the exact same road where a hungry pig had ended up after his escape back in November!
Royston SNT PCSO Rob Evans said:
“I successfully managed to lure the horses back to their proper home with the help of an empty bucket which I pretended contained food, locking the gate an ensuring they were back to safety.”
Please see below the ‘pig escape’ story released on November 11
The (not so) ‘great escape’. Hungry hog takes advantage of open fence
Residents of Royston had a shock on the morning of Wednesday 11 November when they looked out their window and saw an adult pig eating their rubbish!
The hungry porker must have had enough of the horses company and decided to wander out of her field between Church Hill and Cronkhill Lane, Royston by escaping through a collapsed fence.
Officers from Royston Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) were called and PC Kathryn Airstone managed to lure the pig safely back home with the aid of a bag of potatoes, donated by a local resident.
Royston SNT PC Katherine Airstone said:
“The poor animal had obviously been feeling a bit daring that day and she took her chance when she saw the open fence. Luckily we were able to tempt her with food before she walked out in front of a car which could have been really dangerous for her and the motorists. You could say we saved her bacon!”
