Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery and kidnap after a jewellery shop owner was taken from his home in Dudley and made to open up his store.

At around 9.30pm last night, a group of five men broke into the home of a 41-year-old man.

He was assaulted with a hammer, causing injuries to his foot.

Two men stayed at his home address in Dudley with his family and three took him to a jewellery shop on Wellington Road, Dudley in a white Ford Connect van.

He was forced to open up the store but was able to raise the alarm and alert police.

The three men panicked and left the store, taking the victim back to his home address where they retrieved the other two men.

A short police chase took place before the van was lost.

All five offenders are described as white men.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw the five offenders or their white Ford Connect van, which was on stolen number plates.

Nothing was stolen from the store, but robbers stole a quantity of cash and jewellery from the home address.

Police are not releasing details of the victim's home address so as to protect the identity of the family.

The 41-year- old man remains in hospital for treatment to his foot injuries.

Anyone with any information about the robbery is asked to call Force CID at Bloxwich on 0345 113 500.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
