Bedfordshire Police are appealing for witnesses after an arson attack on a Shillington home.
It happened between 2.20am and 2.25am on Friday (8 April) when someone placed a small camping stove and gas canister at the front door of a property in Greenfields, Shillington.
The canister burst into flames and scorched the door, but the quick-thinking owner, who was woken by the noise, managed to kick it away before further damage could be caused.
DC Gill Cowley, investigating, is keen to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area, or has heard someone talking about the incident.
She said:
"Although no-one was hurt, it could have been much worse had the occupant not acted as quickly as he did.
"Shillington is a quiet village and I want to hear from anyone who saw anyone carrying what could have been a camping stove, running from the area or getting into a car.
"I would reassure residents the local Safer Neighbourhood Team are aware of this incident and we are doing all we can to find who was responsible for this incident and why."
A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Anyone with information can telephone DC Cowley, in confidence, on 01582 473386, the main switchboard on 01234 841212.
Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
