Strathclyde Police is appealing for information following the death of an 87-year-old woman in Stonehouse, Larkhall, on Tuesday 3 January 2012.
The body of Kathleen Milward was found in her home in Brodie Place, Stonehouse, Larkhall, around 2030 hours on Tuesday 3 January 2012.
Following extensive enquires into the circumstances surrounding the death, officers are now treating her death as suspicious and as a result a major investigation has been launched.
Detective Superintendent Robbie Allan is leading the investigation. He said:
"Officers have been carrying out detailed and extensive enquiries into the circumstances surrounding Kathleen's death.
"I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the Brodie Place area of Stonehouse on Tuesday 3 January 2012, and may have seen or heard something suspicious, to come forward and speak to officers as soon as possible.
"In particular, I would also urge anyone who was in the area to think back - just in case they can remember seeing anyone hanging around who appeared out of place - and if so, speak to officers.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to reassure the public - and in particular the elderly residents of Stonehouse - that there are additional, high-visibility patrols in the area.
"However, if anyone does have any concerns or wants more information and advice regarding security, please speak to a police officer."
Anyone with any information which can help this inquiry is asked to call the incident room at Larkhall Police Office on 01698 202326.
Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
