Man assaulted in newsagent armed robbery: Constable Street Abbey Hey

A 53-year-old man was punched in the face during an armed robbery at a shop in Abbey Hey this morning, Saturday 21 February 2009.

Shortly after 6.30am two men, armed with a large knife and a hammer, went into Kash News on Constable Street and spoke to the 53-year-old member of staff.

As he turned to respond to them, one of the offenders hit the man in the face.

They then forced him into the storeroom and stole the till before leaving the shop.

The man was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary for treatment to a broken nose.

The men are described as:

  • white
  • aged 17-18 years old
  • and of slim build
  • wearing black hooded tops with the hood pulled up to cover their faces
