BMen posing as police officers burgle woman's home, e-fit issued: Colchester

Police have released an efit of a man they are keen to speak to following a distraction burglary in which thieves got away with a three-figure sum of cash.

Two men posing as police officers knocked on the door of a house in New Kiln Road, Colchester on Monday, August 30 and told the female occupier they needed to search her home.

The men, joined by a third man, pushed past the woman, who was in her 30s, and carried out a messy search of the house at around 7.50pm.

The woman became suspicious and asked the men to leave but later discovered a three-figure sum of cash had been stolen.

The man pictured in the efit spoke to the woman throughout the burglary while the other men searched her home.

The first offender is described as:

  • a mixed race male
  • aged in his 20s

"We are extremely keen to hear from anyone who saw the men in the area at the time, or who thinks they may know the identity of the first man from the efit.

"This incident would clearly have left the victim very shaken.

"If someone knocks on your door who you were not expecting, please challenge them for identification.

"Police officers and legitimate callers will always show ID when asked and will be happy to do so.

"If you have any concerns that the person you are speaking to may not be who they say they are, please contact the police immediately."
