Mother and sleeping daughter escape house arson attack, CCTV issued: Bromsgrove

Police investigating an arson attack at a house in Bromsgrove have released CCTV images of five young men they want to speak to.

It happened in Old Station Road on Thursday 3 November.

The woman occupant had placed a couple of charity bags and an old suitcase, containing unwanted clothes and towels, on her doorstep at around 7pm and discovered a fire outside the front door at around 10pm when the smoke alarm sounded.

She woke her young daughter, who had been in asleep in bed and they escaped into the back garden.

Police have released CCTV images of five young men they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

The five walked from Old Station Road into the town centre following the fire.

DC Jake Wright of West Mercia Police said:

"This could have potentially been a much more serious incident.

"The young men we want to trace are white, in their late teens, and casually dressed.

"Some of the images are quite clear and we hope someone will recognise them."

Detectives also want to speak to anyone who was in the Old Station Road or Conway Road area at the time and saw anything suspicious.

Officers are continuing to work with fire investigators but are treating the blaze as arson with intent to endanger life.
