An MPS officer was today (6/4/09) arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office and handling stolen goods following a proactive investigation by the Met's Anti-Corruption Command.
The 26-year-old female PC was arrested during a series of early-morning raids on 12 addresses in South East London during which officers seized vehicle documentation, computers and mobile phones for examination.
As well as the MPS officer, a further six people - five men and one woman - were arrested in connection with a number of offences including conspiracy to handle stolen goods, conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office and conspiracy to corrupt.
All seven remain in custody at a south London police station.
Controlled drugs - suspected to be classes A and C - were also recovered, alongside a stun gun, pepper spray and a stolen MPS radio.
The operation was carried out by members of the MPS's Anti-Corruption Command, in conjunction with officers from the London Prison Anti-Corruption Team and the Met's Stolen Vehicle Unit
It follows an investigation into a network of individuals believed to be involved in the theft and ringing of high value cars and the supply of controlled drugs to prison inmates.
Inquiries continue.
Note: officers are expected to meet the highest standards of honesty and integrity. The Met is determined that those who fail to meet these standards will be dealt with swiftly and robustly.
