Police have released images of a man they would like to speak to after six women were approached by a bogus shop security guard.
There have been six reported suspicious incidents to date - four on Monday (9 January 2012) and two yesterday (12 January 2012) - in which a man has approached females of Chinese appearance as they have arrived home after shopping trips.
The man has shown a form of identification, purporting to be a security guard from either Superdrug, Boots or Tesco.
He has accused the women of stealing property from the relevant store and then conducted a search of their shopping bags.
On one occasion he managed to enter the home of one of his victims and stole cash.
This is being treated as a distraction burglary.
The offender is described as:
DC Jeff Julious said:
"Fortunately, while no one has come to any physical harm during these incidents, the women have all been left intimidated and intruded upon by this man, who is claiming to be someone he isn't in order to access their property and essentially invade their privacy.
"Only the police are permitted by law to search your person or property.
"I would urge anyone who is approached by this man to call the police immediately."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC Julious on 101 extension 802 4587.
Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
