West Mercia Police are appealing for information following an attempted abduction in Redditch on Saturday, 2 July.

At around 8.30pm, a 12-year old girl was walking along Batchley Road close to the Spar shop when a black car - possibly a Renault Clio - with tinted rear windows pulled up alongside her.

The driver of the car asked the girl for her telephone number.

The girl responded negatively and the car then drove off.

A short time later, as the girl walked into St David's Court, the car returned but this time the driver jumped out of the car and tried to grab her.

The girl kicked out at the man and ran off onto Cherry Tree Walk.

The offender is described as:

  • an Asian male
  • aged early 20s
  • spiky hair
  • wearing a bright blue hooded top

A police spokesman said:

"Having ran onto Cherry Tree Walk the girl made her way towards the HDA Social Club.

"As she approached the club she suddenly saw the back car in the car park.

"The driver saw her and shouted ‘I'll be back for you' before quickly making off.

"By now extremely upset, the girl made her way into the club and the police were then called immediately.

"This was a frightening incident for the young girl and she has been very shaken by it.

"Thankfully though, she has not suffered any physical injuries.

"A number of officers are now investigating this incident and house-to-house enquiries and CCTV trawls are currently ongoing as we attempt to identify the car involved and its driver.

"In addition Local Police Officers and CSOs are carrying out reassurance patrols in the area to support the investigation and the local community."

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have information about this incident and anyone with information is asked to call CID in Redditich on 0300 333 3000.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
