Andrzej Kulesza

Detectives investigating the murder of a man who was kidnapped from Stamford Hill, whose remains were later found in Northamptonshire, are appealing for help and information.

The body of Polish national Andrzej Kulesza, aged 27, was found in a remote field near Rothersthorpe, close to Northampton, on Monday 25 April 2011.

A post-mortem examination was conducted but failed to establish a cause of death.

Andrzej had been reported missing to Tottenham police after being last seen leaving his home in Stamford Hill N16 at about 08:00hrs on Saturday 18 September 2010.

He went out to buy milk and bread at the local shop but never returned home.

Detectives believe he was kidnapped.

Shortly afterwards the victim's girlfriend began receiving ransom demands.

She paid a quantity of cash but Andrzej was not returned and all telephone calls ceased on Tuesday 21 September 2010.

The victim's girlfriend then alerted police.

On Monday 25 April a woman walking her dog found bones in the field near Rothersthorpe.

DNA tests showed the bones belonged to Andrzej and a murder investigation was launched by the Met's Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

An incident room is open at Hendon under DCI Jacqueline Sebire.

DCI Sebire said:

"So far it is not clear how Andrzej was kidnapped - he would not usually have left the house at that time so perhaps he had arranged to meet someone who then orchestrated the abduction.

"We believe he was killed shortly after the ransom demands stopped.

"We would ask anyone with information, or anyone who witnessed suspicious activity either in Stamford Hill that day or in the Rothersthorpe area, to contact us as soon as possible."

Anyone who can assist should call the incident room on 020 8358 0200;

Messages can also be left in Polish on this number: 020 8358 0305.

A Polish-speaking police officer will get back to you.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

NOTE: a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and murder on 9 June 2011.

He was taken to a west London police station and subsequently bailed to return on 28 July pending further enquiries.
