On Monday 6 July 2009, a man walked into Boothstown Post Office, Leigh Road, wearing a ski mask.

He was holding a foot-long machete and shouted at staff they had five seconds to give him money.

When staff refused, the man left the post office.

The offender is described as:

  • 6ft tall
  • medium build
  • wearing a black jacket with white writing or logo, black jogging bottoms with Max Ltd printed down the side, black trainers, dark ski mask, lime greengloves

No one was injured in the incident.

Detective Constable Dave Hayes of Swinton CID said:

"This man is clearly comfortable threatening people with such a large weapon and he needs to be caught before he can try it again.

"The man would have looked quite distinctive with his all black clothing and bright green gloves, so if you saw him, please get in touch.

"No matter how insignificant you feel your information is, it could be vital to finding the person responsible."

The Post Office is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this robbery.
