Responding to the Conservative Party's statement about burglary in Greater Manchester, Detective Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson, leading GMP's initiative to tackle burglary, Operation Storm said:
"We have been working extremely hard to tackle burglary.
"It has been identified as a top priority for GMP after a 40 per cent reduction in burglary since 2000.
"Since we launched Operation Storm, our initiative in the fight against burglary, we have made significant strides forward.
"In the last week alone we have made 250 arrests, executed 150 warrants and recovered close to half a million pounds worth of property
"600 officers were involved in our week of action, which has included making residents aware of how they can significantly decrease their chances of falling victim to burglary.
"We have also had officers at the entrances of almost 90 major supermarkets to give shoppers information on how they can provide police with the vital information they need to bring criminals to justice.
"Storm has seen specialist officers with experience in investigating serious crime using the same hi-tech systems, forensic skills and knowledge to arrest offenders and put them before the courts.
"We understand that burglary has a tremendous impact on people's lives, which is why we are taking this tough action and will continue to do so in the future."
