The 90-year-old victim of a robbery in Bolton has bravely agreed to show a picture of her recovering in hospital in a bid to help catch the criminals who put her there.
The photograph of Alice Travis, from Bolton, was taken yesterday and shows her recovering from her ordeal in Royal Bolton Hospital.
The robbery happened just before 8.30pm on Tuesday 29 November 2011, when the victim was at her house on Brandwood Street in Daubhill, Bolton.
The woman heard a knock at the door and went to answer it, putting the security chain on as she did.
Three men then forced their way through the front door, breaking the chain.
It is believed that at this point, the door has hit the victim in the face, leaving her with a cut on her head.
Two of the men kept hold of the woman, while the other man searched the house.
They stole money from the woman's handbag before leaving.
The victim was taken to hospital, where she received stitches for the cut on her forehead.
She is being kept in hospital as a precautionary measure.
The three men are white and were wearing face coverings over the lower part of their faces.
Detective Inspector Andy Cunliffe from Bolton's CID said:
"I want everyone to take a good hard look at this photograph.
"It shows a brave and defiant woman who wants everyone to see what these despicable cowards have done to her.
"If you know something about this incident than I ask you to look at the picture and do the right thing - this could be your mother or grandmother.
"We are determined to find out who is responsible for this robbery and take these men off our streets.
"I am appealing for anyone who may have been in the area either just before or after this happened and who may have seen something, to contact us.
"Or if you know who is responsible for this cowardly crime, then please search your conscience and give us a call."
