Following an application by the Police in West Cumbria to review the Premise Licence of Hogs and Heffers on Jane Street, Workington, the Allerdale Licensing Panel have suspended the Licence.
Sgt Richard Farnworth, who made the application on behalf of the Police, said:
"The management of Hogs and Heffers have been given a great deal of advice both by the Licensing panel, the Police and other agencies.
"There continues to be serious incidents at the premises and breaches of the Premise Licence.
"The Licensee has been given warnings about the breaches but has chosen to ignore those warnings.
"West Cumbria is one of the safest places in the Country to live, work and socialise and we are working with partners to make it even safer."
This is the third application within 12 months made by the Police to review the Hogs and Heffers Premise Licence.
At today's Licensing Hearing, which was held at Allerdale Borough Council Customer Service Centre in Workington, the panel decided to suspend the premises licence with immediate effect.
The reasons are as follows:
1.Persistent breach of premises licence conditions, in particular:
a. door supervisors not wearing high visibility vests;
b. admittance of the public after 1.00am;
c. failure to keep incident book
d. failure to have the correct number of door supervisors on duty
2.Poor management of door supervisors
3.The Panel has concerns regarding the serious crime and disorder at the premises and the safety of customers.
The Premise License has now been suspended pending a full review hearing which will take place at a date yet to be decided.
