British Transport Police (BTP) officers investigating a racially-aggravated public order offence at Birmingham New Street railway station are appealing for information.
Officers have today released a CCTV image of a man they want to identify and speak to in connection with the incident which took place on platform 10 at the station at around 8pm on Thursday, 13 October 2011.
Investigating officer, PC Mark Murphy, said:
"A 31-year-old male member of rail staff had attempted to intervene in a domestic dispute involving a couple at the request of the female involved.
"The male involved in the dispute then turned to face the member of staff and racially abused him, swore repeatedly at him and threatened to throw him onto the railway tracks.
"Although the member of staff did not suffer any physical harm, he felt threatened and alarmed by the man's behaviour.
"Members of rail staff should be able to go about their duties without suffering abuse or aggression from passengers.
"Enquiries are ongoing to trace the man responsible and after viewing CCTV from the station, I would like to identify and speak to the man in this photograph as I believe he will have information which can assist the investigation.
"I would urge anyone who knows his identity or current whereabouts to call British Transport Police."
Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40.
Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
