Retired Garda dies in shooting incident: Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim

Shortly before 10am this morning, 25.7.09, a recently retired Garda, Peter O'Donnell,  who was in Carrick on Shannon Garda Station in relation to his former role tragically died.

The incident involved an official firearm. No other Garda member was involved in the incident.

The retired Garda was pronounced dead at the scene.

The state pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy has been notified and a Post Mortem examination is scheduled for tomorrow morning at Sligo General Hospital.

This incident has been referred to the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission.
