Police in Dundee are carrying out enquiries after a 76-year-old man was assaulted as he tried to stop a man from breaking into a neighbour's car.
The Craigie Drive resident spotted a man - thought to be aged about 40-years-old - breaking in to a white Honda Civic parked in the street shortly before 7.15am and went out to challenge him.
The suspect assaulted the older man and ran off up a pathway on the opposite side of the road towards Gardyne Place.
Nothing appeared to have been taken from the car.
The pensioner suffered reddening and bruising to his face and was checked over by paramedics at the scene but did not require hospital attention.
The offender is described as:
- five feet ten inches tall
- wearing a light coloured baseball cap and a dark hooded top
Police officers were conducting door to door enquiries in the area this morning and would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw this man to contact them on 0300 111 2222, or speak to any officer.
