The incident happened between 12pm, on Tuesday, June 9 and 3.30pm, on Friday, June 12.
The offenders unbolted the 72kilo roundabout, at a children's play area, on New Road, before making off with it.
The item was recovered, on Monday, June 15, after being found on grass land at the back of South Crescent, Boldon Colliery, however, officers are keen to speak to anyone who has any information in relation to the theft or who seen anyone discard the item.
